The Royal Exchange Theatre is a futuristic metal and glass high-tech structure built inside what used to be the Great Hall of Manchester's old Cotton Exchange which ceased trading in 1968. It seats about 800 and is the world's largest theatre in-the-round. Behind the scenes tours are also available.

Excellant building. Good plays. Some interesting small shops inside, Can recommend the restaurant for pre dinner or lunch times meal.
I really enjoyed it here. The theatre is really interesting, I wasn't expecting it to be so big! It's a circular lay out around the main stage, so you can see the stage from whereever you are sat. There are loads of special offers which as a student I found really useful. Under 25's can see shows on Mondays for £4 but book early! You can also get half price tickets as a student if you book it on the day and there are still tickets left. I didn’t go but there seemed some nice cafes and a nice shop as well.
The Royal Exchange is a fascinating building, despite it's exterior. The building houses two theatres, one of which is circular and encased in glass. The inside of the Exchange is worth a glance merely for the architecture. The theatre has a great programme with high calibur actors, often local people. The Exchange has a cute shop with great gifts and some interesting art prints. The highlight of the Exchange for me is the restaurant which does great afternoon teas and cakes. If you're in Manchester it's a great central spot for something different.

There are two theatres in the Royal Exchange building. The main theatre is in the centre of the hall as you walk into the building and has been designed to be completely circular and see through (from the outside and in). the stage is in the centre so no matter where you sit, you get a good view. Performances feel very intimate and the impact is amazing. There is also a very nice cafe/bar, and a very interesting arts & crafts shop. The building itself has been very impressively restored from the days when it used to be a commodities exchange centre. Just walk in and look up and you'll know what I mean. It's breathtaking.
