Internationally famous for its collections of art and design, the Whitworth Art Gallery which is part of the University of Manchester, is home to an impressive range of watercolours, prints, drawings, modern art and sculpture, as well as the largest collections of textiles and wallpapers outside London.
I went to the Whitworth last year where they had a Flower Fairy exhibition which took me back to my childhood within about 5 seconds-not bad when your childhood was over 40 years ago (that is such a frigtening comment to read back!)They also had Homes and Gardens design exhibition on the lower floors which was very entertaining and once again 'nostalgic' and sooo informative for all of Manchester's present day art students! However what I'm really here to rave about is the Museum shop-loads of interesting purchases were made that day and the Museum Cafe on the groundfloor which is seconfd to non ( I don't seem to be able to write without employing dozens of cliches!) The food was so deliicious that straight after elevenses, we settled down and had lunch as well! Do visit-its fa.

Always at the Whitworth Art Gallery they have some great installations. I went to take my girlfriend as she wanted to see the textiles exhibit and we were very impressed. When we went, one of the installations was about people and some of the pieces were cool and very thought provoking. They had all sorts of things for children like crayons and colouring sheets as well as dressing up clothes and a sort of supervised play area, this was good but there was enough for adults too. The entry is free but donations are asked for and gratefully received which is nice as it is a good afternoon out and it is full of culture.
